Pompey signing top USA international on loan
All going to plan Portsmouth could well be signing 21-year-old USA international forward Landon Donovan on a loan deal until the rest of the season.
Currently on loan to MLS outfit San Jose Earthquakes for the past 3 years from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, Pompey chairman Milan Manderic is hoping to bring the striker to Fratton Park in order to stave off relegation fears and booster the sides resolve.
'A couple of other clubs in England are looking, but he wants to come here. Harry Redknapp likes him - he is a quality player,' Mandaric told The Portsmouth News.
'And, we have spoken already with Bayer Leverkusen about a loan until the end of the season.'
The youngster was one of the stars of the 2002 World Cup finals, scoring twice in five games during the USA's shock run to the quarter-finals.
