Croatian international Mornar hoping to sign

A possible move for Croation international Ivica Mornar looks likely this week which should solve the current striker crisis at Fratton Park. Mornar is understood to be very keen to leave his current club Belgium side Anderlecht. The staturesque 6ft 3in striker is thought to be confident that a deal will go through before the transfer window closes on Saturday night.

'I hope both teams come to an agreement this week,' Mornar told The News. 'I want to leave because I can earn much more elsewhere - although I still play with my heart in every match for Anderlecht.'

'I was relegated to fourth striker at the beginning of the season but have fought and have helped the club. I hoped Anderlecht would do more to keep me as I would have liked to stay.'

'But I asked for a three-year contract and got a two-year offer.'

Mornar, who claimed a fortnight ago he had received a 'verbal offer' from Rangers, is a colourful character who has shown no hesitation in speaking out against his club.

The forward, who has 14 caps and one international goal to his name, starred for Anderlecht on Sunday in a game Portsmouth scouts are understood to have attended.

He scored in the 72nd minute as Les Mauves beat Gent 2-0.
